The Alentejo is an extensive region covering almost a
third of Portugal. It stretches from Lisbon in the north to
the Algarve hills in the south. Essentially rural and
sparsely populated, it offers a landscape uncommonly well
preserved.
Its scenic beauty, temperate climate and abundance of
heritage make the Alentejo an exceptional and unique place
to visit!

Evora, capital of Alto Alentejo, city of an
outstanding beauty, embraced by its fortress walls, filled
with historic memories in each street, each home, each
inhabitant…Its squares and monuments tell us a little bit of
the national history, religion and culture.
The natural beauty of this region combines with the
monumental richness of this town-museum that nowadays is
also a modern and touristy city, classified by UNESCO, since
1986, as World Heritage. Inhabited since the Neolithic
period, the archaeological landscape that surrounds the city
presents important monuments, such as the Cromlech of
Almendres (cromlech) and the Great Dolmen of
Zambujeiro (dolmen). |
